Tech Tip Thursday - Outlook - Delay your late night emails

If you like me, you sometimes use the evening (while watching Thursday Night Football) to catch up on a few emails that you did not get to during the day. However, I feel a little guilty sending yet another notification late at night. So I schedule my late night emails for first thing in morning using Outlook's delay delivery option. My thought is, we get enough notifications on our phones, why send another when I am don't need a response until tomorrow. In general, when we send emails, we should not anticipated an instant response. Skype, texting, and the phone are great for messages that need a more immediate response. See below for details on how to delay your next late night email.
Keep communicating,
Ralph

Delay Delivery of Email

  • Create email as normal (i.e. New Email, To…, Subject, Message, etc.)
  • Before you hit 'Send', click on the 'Options' tab
  • Click on the 'Delay Delivery' icon

  • Near the Bottom, select a time and date for email to be sent. (e.g. select 10/20/2017 at 7:43am, because you don't want all your emails to be sent right at 7am or 8am)

  • Click 'Close' and then click 'Send'. Your email will not be sent until the time selected. In is important note that you need be logged into Outlook for your email to send. (e.g. if you choose to delay to 6:30am and don' turn your computer and open outlook until 7:30, your emails will send at 7:30am.)
