Now that we are well into the new year, it is time to track and check off those New Year's resolutions. If you remember from my first presentation, I was the sticky note guy. It was a large part of my motivation for going paperless.

One of the first things I needed to do to become paperless is find a way to replace all of those sticky notes and a solution to help me manage my to do list. Over the years I have tried everything from Outlook tasks to google tasks, to remember the milk, to whatever other app of the month I came across. Nothing seemed on stick until I came across Trello. I think Trello stuck because it works the way my mind worked. Trello uses board and lists with tasks flowing from list to list as the progress. Other great apps include Wunderlist, Any.DO, Todoist and Microsoft ToDo. You can also just use OneNote taking apps too. The key for me is that every app needs to keep the same list on ever device. Below is a brief are links to the resources for each option along with a little more detail on my favorite Trello. How do you manage your to do list?

Ralph

My Trello Lists

Trello is one of my favorite apps because it organizes my tasks basically how I like to manage them.
  • After you sign up for an account, create your first board. Something like "To Do List"
  • Create your lists. I use long term, this week, today and done. I also have a goals bucket
    • Long term - Anything longer than a week
    • This week - Tasks I should get done this week.
    • Today - Limit this list to five to help manage priorities
    • Done - Drag my completed task here and "archive all cards in this list" once a week.
    • Goals - My long term goals for a reminder.
  • Now create cards, by clicking "add a card", entering the tasks
  • As you progress through the tasks, drag your cards from one list to another.
  • Here is a basic Trello tutorial. Also check out this video on the Eisenhower matrix
Try out Trello and see if it helps. At worst, move away from the sticky notes on sitting around your desk. They are really not that effective in the long term.
